Independence Day is celebrated only on 15th August but why? : Independence Day 2021

The question always arises that why the date of celebrating Independence Day was chosen on 15th August itself and what was the special reason behind doing so.

Today we will know why Independence Day is celebrated on 15th August in India.

We know that Independence Day 2021 is celebrated in India every year on 15th August. Independence Day is celebrated with great pomp across the country. On this day the Prime Minister of India hoists the flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort. 15 August 1947 was the lucky day when India was declared independent from British colonialism and the reins of control were handed over to the leaders of the country. India’s independence was her fate, as the freedom struggle went on for a long time and it was a tiring experience in which many freedom fighters laid down their lives.

Let us tell you that on 15 August 1947, India got independence from the British. Since then India was declared an independent country. But now the question arises that why the date of celebrating Independence Day was chosen on 15th August and what was the special reason behind doing so.

So tell that, the British Parliament had given Lord Mountbatten the right to transfer the power of India to the Indian people till 30 June 1948. Lord Mountbatten was appointed as the last Viceroy of India in the year 1947. After which Mountbatten had chosen the date of 15 August for the independence of India.

It is also the opinion of some historians

At the same time, some historians also believe that this date was chosen by Lord Mountbatten on the suggestion of C Rajagopalachari. C Rajagopalachari said that if we waited till 30 June 1948, there would be no power left to transfer. In view of this, Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of India, chose 15 August as India’s independence. At the same time, some also believe that the 15th was considered auspicious, due to which they chose it for the independence of India. Everyone has their own different opinion on choosing the date of independence on 15th August.

India became independent on the midnight of 14 August 1947

In August 1942, Gandhi started the “Quit India Movement” and decided to start a mass civil disobedience movement “Do or Die” to force the British to leave India. Due to the tireless efforts of Mahatma Gandhi, the British finally had to bow down to him and India moved towards independence. Thus India became independent on the midnight of 14th August 1947 (since every year Independence Day is celebrated in India on 15th August). Jawaharlal Nehru became the first Prime Minister of independent India and his term continued till 1964.
